Tourist route management
LEADER project - development of professional trail management for the tourist hiking and cycling infrastructure in the Saarpfalz district and the Bliesgau biosphere

The Saarpfalz district is in charge of quality assurance with regard to the designation of district-wide tourist cycling and hiking trails. The existing hiking and cycling trails make a significant contribution to ensuring that the region can be experienced by locals and visitors in a sustainable way and in harmony with nature. As "lifelines", they connect villages, natural landscapes, biotopes and cultural highlights and thus contribute to the attractiveness of the region.

The LEADER project, which is funded by the EU and the Saarland, aims to establish structures to ensure the sustainability of the infrastructure created. As cycling and hiking trails are not bound by municipal boundaries and the trail network serves to enhance the attractiveness of the Saarpfalz district as a whole, the district administration's staff unit for sustainable development and mobility has been entrusted with the management of this infrastructure. In the project, the existing structures were supplemented by two staff positions for trail monitoring, which carry out recording, monitoring and maintenance measures and act as an interface to the volunteer trail sponsors and associations.
The project is 85% subsidised by LEADER funds from the Saarland and the EU.
