Traces of women in the Saarpfalz district
Project to visualise regional women's history
To this day, little is known about the life and work of women in the region. Tradition still focuses on men and their achievements. The LEADER project "Traces of women in the Saarpfalz district" aims to change this and focus on the life achievements of women at different times and make them known to a wider public.
The project
The project focuses on women who have played a significant role in the Saarpfalz district, whether professionally, socially, ecclesiastically or politically. Their biographies are being researched and analysed. To this end, the district's women's office, where the project is based, is cooperating with the archives in Homburg, St. Ingbert and Blieskastel, among others.
The aim is to make the traces of women's actions visible - at various locations in the district and through a variety of formats. The project aims to show the formative role that women played in the region's community and how they managed to achieve something special despite the adverse circumstances of the time. In doing so, it offers identification opportunities for women and girls living today.
However, with its regional focus, the project is also intended to emphasise the history of the district as a whole and thus appeal to anyone interested in the development of the region. In this context, the project also includes an important tourism component.
