Senior safety advisors

Senior safety advisors

Crime prevention is a task for society as a whole. Everyone can play their part. One example of how the expertise of the police can be combined with the voluntary commitment of senior citizens can be found in the "Senior Citizens' Safety Advisors" (SSB) project, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family (MSGFF). The Saarpfalz district senior citizens' office serves as a platform for interested senior citizens who would like to become an SSB.

Offers of the SSB:

  • Presentations/lectures at senior citizens' events, afternoons for the elderly, club meetings, among friends and on other occasions;
  • Individual discussions in the context of outreach work, if citizens so wish;
  • Counselling for individual senior citizen groups;
  • Liaising between the municipality, the police and older people

Content topics (examples):

  • Trick theft / trickery (grandchild trick)
  • The glass of water trick
  • Dubious coffee trips
  • Cybercrime
  • Behaviour at the automatic pay station
  • Existing offers of assistance (e.g. fire protection, burglary protection, etc.)

The contact details of the responsible safety advisors can be obtained from the senior citizens' office.
