Display acquisition of a weapon
Service description
If you acquire a firearm subject to authorisation or transfer it to someone else, you must notify the competent authority within two weeks.
Procedure
You must report the acquisition of a weapon requiring a licence to the relevant weapons authority. Submit the application together with the required documents.
Prerequisites
- When purchasing a weapon: Authorisation to purchase (gun ownership card [with previous entry if applicable] or hunting licence)
- When handing over a weapon: the recipient's authorisation to acquire it
Which documents are required?
- Identity card or passport (copy)
- Weapons possession card (WBK) or hunting licence with purchase authorisation (previous entry)
- European firearms pass (if registration is required)
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The competent district administrative authority must be notified within two weeks of the acquisition or transfer as well as the modification by conversion or replacement of a significant part.

You can use the NWR identification numbers (NWR ID) to complete the application more quickly:
- Your Personal NWR ID (P or F NWR ID) for your personal details
- the permitNWR ID for the firearms licence (E-NWR ID)
- the weapon or weapon part NWR ID (W or T NWR ID).
You can obtain NWR IDs on application to the relevant firearms authority.
